Define the source of truth
List which system owns title, description, media, price, inventory, tax, order and fulfillment state. Shopify can be the source for some fields while a PIM, ERP or warehouse system owns others. Resolve ownership before mapping channels.
Model each market and channel
Country, language and channel are separate dimensions. Shopify’s contextual product feeds support localized product data by country and language, while Markets catalogs can control product publication and pricing for a context. Marketplace schemas add their own mandatory attributes and categories.
Build a canonical product layer
Maintain stable SKU, variant and GTIN relationships. Normalize source attributes once, then map them to each marketplace rather than embedding channel logic in the source catalog. Reject incomplete records before publication and preserve the reason for rejection.
Synchronize inventory and orders safely
Choose update frequency based on overselling risk and API constraints. Use idempotent order ingestion, stable external IDs, controlled retries and status reconciliation. Respect rate limits and distinguish accepted API requests from processed marketplace state.
Roll out in controlled stages
Start with one country, language and product subset. Validate listings, prices, tax treatment, inventory and order lifecycle before expanding. The purpose of a pilot is to test operating controls, not only whether a product can be published.
